Experimenting with Light Painting

The wonders of light painting! I'm not very good at it yet so I'm determined to experiment more until I get better.
Here's my sort of first attempt at it in my front yard

Test Shot

Look closely and you can see my shoe :P

Last week I borrowed my friend Lizzie and went to the local park (after a macca's run) to do some experimenting with light.

Used a combination of the flash from the camera and the torch for this image

Only used the torch to light Liz here

Only the torch here again

Used the torch at a low angle here
And last night I crashed at my friend Sarah's house to experiment again.

The Subconcious- Searching for Inspiration

I'm looking at dreams and the subconcious for my concept and research project. I want to re-create a dream-like almost surreal scape. These are a few artists with surreal-like qualities, and some looking at the concious and the subconcious.

The Imagination of Shaun Tan

'The Eight Eggs' from 'The Bird King and other sketches'

Children's artist Shaun Tan has written and illustated a unbelievable world. Books like 'The Lost Thing', 'The Red Tree', and 'The Arrival' and many more.
My favourite and most inspiring book by Tan would have to be 'The Bird King and other sketches', a book of his sketches and ideas for his books.
Definately an artist to go to for inspiration

Mike Bailey Gates

Mike Bailey Gates: photographer and an inspiration. My friend from high school got me into him last year. Everytime I look at his work, I'm always inspired to run off and try something different. Love his work, definitely check him out!

Shaun of the the Dead animated GIF

If you haven't watched Shaun of the Dead, get off the computer, go to the shops and buy this dvd, because it is AWESOME! I swear, you cant go wrong. Anyway, last week in class we learnt how to make animated GIF's, I think I may hav skipped a step cause when I took my finished GIF home, it went a lil jumpy, so either:
1. i DID miss a step or
2. my laptop is just not up to the standards of the MAC's at uni.... bugger.
But, anyway, I took a few seconds from Shaun of the Dead and made my own lil GIF, I was so proud until I got home and was shattered that it just didn't look as good. I'm determined to make it work next time :P

The Humble Scanner

Our teacher showed us the amazingness of the scanner, going home I was all inspired to scan billions of objects. I'd suggest cleaning the scanner bed first though since any smudges will come up, or else you can edit them out later, also I did it at night (since there's not a dark room in my house) so the objects seemed to float in space which can look pretty cool and creepy. I was happy with some of the results, some, not so much.  I think the results have to do with the quality of the scanner, my one at home is also a printer so I couldn't change specific settings which is probably why some of the objects came out a little blurry, might try again with a better scanner, eventually.
